En Passant #1: Rest In Peace Oh Beloved ‘Aussie Burger’

Occasionally, around once a month or so, I’m partial to a Hungry Jack’s hamburger.  This being the aptly named ‘Aussie Burger’.  Along with a regular fry’s (horrible term) and onion rings, this has been my favourite treat for some time.  It sits there along with Kentucky Fried (once a year to see that it still is, basically, as unappetising as last time) and MacDonald’s (breakfast meal only when travelling in Japan – they’re open early and the coffee is cheap, and good).

It was with great sorrow upon ordering my HJ today to be informed that; ‘We’re not making Aussie Burger’s any more’ – WHAT!  Further enquiry at the ‘pay your money, get your goodies’ window elicited the further response that; ‘ we stopped making them about two weeks ago’ and, ‘ not many people ordered them anymore’.  Deeply saddened I settled for an ‘Angry Angus’ – how could we sink so low and name something so inappropriately?
Angry it certainly ain’t.  It’s warm, but not even slighty grumpy.

So, farewell beloved ‘Aussie Burger’, requiescat in pace, sleep the sleep of the treasured.  You are fondly remembered and will be sadly missed.

And to those Aussie’s out there who abandoned a true nucleo-calorific friend. “How could you?”  “ Where is your sense of national pride”?  “Shame on you!”
