Graphical Manipulations #49: Exaggerations, Falsehoods, Prayers, Rats, Slogans And Class!

Another week of hyperbole, huffy puff and hysteria from our politicians, pollsters and purveyors of the printed word (well it used to be once until uvver media came along).  All leading up to not a lot really!  The unbelievable, became fantasmagorical and then farcically ridiculous as the politicians descended into the residual effluvia of their cesspits and raised more indescribably ugly and radical three word slogans to describe their latest offering.  The ultimate for the week was BUY THE BOATS!  This one has to be the most inanely stupid utterance for an idea that has about as much merit as swimming in a crocodile infested river wearing a life-jacket so you don’t drown.

However, that aside, its thankful we are for those political fact checking sites and their appropriately labelled graphics of politicians being, well, not quite accurate in their pontifications to the populace.  Firstly, there was one of our popular Mr Eleventy (aka Joe Hockey) being a little exaggerative and leading to this;

Exxagerated Hockey

And then one from PolitiFact Australia of Tony Abbott (aka Phoney Tony) who was telling a falsehood or three, which lead turned into;

PolitiFact false Abbott

And whilst on Tony, we again became concerned at his inability to coherently string words and sentences together into something punchy and meaningful since ‘cut, cut, cut’ just doesn’t really cut it I’m afraid.  As one who believes in a higher authority we felt sure that he would be calling on that authority for an appropriate curative;

Prayerful Tony

While contemplating this contemplative moment the bloody rat slipped back to provide a little light entertainment in the interval with;

Commander Tony Rat

Followed up pretty smartly with this little gem;

Lying Joe

Such a statement bought about thoughts of that baby based slogan PAID PARENTAL LEAVE which, upon consideration, we thought could easily carry the more punchy POST PARTUM LEAVE, and that lead to thinking of other slogans like;

Fill the holes

POST PARTUM LEAVE and FILLING THE HOLES, lead to thoughts of, among other things, LARGE BUDGETARY HOLES and that fact that super earnings would be generously taken from the superannuated and donated to those producing babies.  I guess that that means that many of the superannuated will just take more aged pension from the public purse, eh?  That lead to further ugly thoughts about Tony Abbot, his NO Coalition and slogans like STUFF THE AGED and to;

Pensioner Pays PPL

LARGE BUDGETARY HOLES and extracting money from the public purse to BUY THE BOATS led to consideration of what ‘with it’ Indonesian fishermen might do when some foreign government comes along with lashings of cash and offers to BUY YOUR BOAT with its CASH FOR TRASH policy.  The guess would be SELL YOUR BOAT and GET A NEWY and then offer that for competitive sale between this silly foreign government and the ever creative smugglers.  Such thoughts led to:

Treble boat prices

And to;

Refugee Boat Deals

Then, for no apparent reason, thoughts turned to us and them, rich and poor, would be’s and has beens and then, finally, class warfare accusations being thrown around.  Such thoughts led to;

NC Class ification

And finally we came to campaign launches and promises without substance and questions of trust and fact checking which all led to;

Wrong Man PM

And there we have it!  Leaving you with the usual postscript . . . . . . !

 No to the NC First Mod

  2. Another good post Deknarf (you can feel the anger and frustration bleeding through), and another good comment from Cartoon Mick (like yourself Deknarf, I envy Mick and wish that I was born with talent instead of being stunningly handsome). Your comparison with the Nazi era is apt and like yourself I have the growing uneasy feeling that history is repeating itself and being allowed to do so by the complacency of those who have not learned its lessons.
    At the heart of the matter is ideology – in this case the ideology of the ‘free market’ which underpins both parties platforms and therefore we have the choice of Neo-Liberal heavy (NLP) or Neo-Liberal Lite (ALP) which is rather like asking whether you would prefer to be hanged or shot, which is no choice at all!
    What is really needed is a party or leader with what George W. Bush called ‘the vision thing’. Alas, these would seem to be rarer than rocking horse manure.

    • deknarf says:

      Sadly, we seem to have lost the vision thing when Keating went and one only has to look at the US of A to see the results ‘free marketeering’ principles.
      All that appears left is the ‘dogs fighting over a bone’ political parties who are long on promise and short on delivery. And vision? I suspect they think that that is what you see in a rear view mirror!
      Give me a centralist party with some ethics, and with priorities of the people, the country, the economy in that order and I suspect I’d get killed in the rush for reasonable thinking Australians to get on board!
      Whither democracy in this country? Someone has pulled the plug of integrity and I am hearing the gurgling of it going down the drain!
      PS: It is now noted that there are two stunning handsome people on this earth! ;-))

      • You’re absolutely right (especially about the two handsome people), the electorate’s got its tongue hanging out for change but at the moment none seems to be forthcoming. How about you, Cartoon Mick, Ross Sharp (smelly tongues) and I start one?
        We’ll call it the Really Bloody Sensible Party and campaign on a platform of free beer and chicken for all – everyday. We’ll re-implement tariff barriers, revive the manufacturing sector on every level by committing to full employment (remember that?) and pump a shipload of money back into the tertiary and government secondary education sector as well as raising the pension and the dole and we’ll ensure that the public health system is world class. Finally, we’ll pledge to build a pub on every corner and put Cartoon Mick in charge of the project.
        Whoops, sorry I was obviously having one of those acid flashbacks that they warned me about in the ’70s

    The media is becoming even nastier towards Labor & Kevin Rudd in their zeal to guide Tony Abbott on his Tefloned path to Kirribilli House (He won’t live in the Lodge). Cannot believe some of the things being said. Mark Riley on 7 last night referred to the “stench of Labor” blah blah. Despicable.

    Great GMs again. deknarf. Love ’em.

    • deknarf says:

      We are seeing a reflection of Nazi Germany in that propaganda fed to us by a monopolistic media is being accepted by a public that is largely uncritical and unquestioning of it’s content! And undemanding of seeing the content that it lacks, like policies and budgetary information.
      I’m hopeful that voters will step back from taking a leap of blind faith with a NO Coalition that is lying to them and hiding behind the propaganda machine of Murdochian proportion.
      I fear that that hope may be dashed on September 7, 2013. Which gives rise to thoughts of that famous WWII saying; ‘A day that will live in infamy’! Must use that one in full next GM! ;-))

      • joy cooper says:

        Yes, deknarf, the complete lack of questioning by the media of anything Abbott or LNP is very disturbing & is so typical of what happened during the Nazi era.

        At least some of us are aware of the Libs use of Goebbels’ propaganda techniques but I fear there are many ill-educated, non-caring & unthinking voters who will lap the garbage up & believe all the crap.

        • deknarf says:

          Well I can’t disagree with that viewpoint! One good reason why we need a Gonski! Educated masses are more aware masses! 😉

    We should all be careful what we wish for.
    Who can believe anything any of them say.
    Like a child who has learnt how to respond to a parent, they only tell us what they know we want to hear.
    After the election, the smoke and mirrors will leave us all with tears in our eyes and bleeding from the cuts.
    Those who survive the 2013 election campaign will envy those who perished in it.
    In the meantime, make sure the beer is cold.

    • deknarf says:

      Love the cartoons Mick! Makes this amateur jealous!
      We are about to make a decision that will either take this country forward to playing a part in the rapidly rising Indo/Asia/Pacific region or; take us back to a conservative, negative and unadventurous world of fear and bigotry lead by probably the one who will go down in history as Australia’s most negative and unimaginative Prime Minister.
      As in my header, I will be voting for Labor! Not because I’m particularly taken with their abilities or policies, but because I hold the firm conviction that they will do the least damage to this country in a volatile and uncertain world!
